Vojvodina TV network withdraws lawsuit against two Croat employees

SUBOTICA, Oct 2 (Hina) - The radio and television broadcasting company in Serbia's northern province Vojvodina has withdrawn a lawsuit filed two years ago against two ethnic Croat employees over alleged hate speech.

Reporter Dusica Dulic and producer Zvonimir Petrusic said in a statement on Monday that the competent court had dropped charges against them in line with a decision of the new management of the radio and TV network.

The network's former manager filed a lawsuit against the two alleging that they were disseminating false information instigating hatred between the majority ethnic group and the Croat community in Vojvodina.

The lawsuit was filed over statements made at a news conference in late 2004 after Television Novi Sad refused to air a previously scheduled broadcast by Dulic and Petrusic.

Speaking of the case, which involved the most senior Croatian and Serbian officials, Petrusic said that the prosecutor had failed to introduce a single piece of evidence to support the allegations.

Last month, the Croat National Council, a local body representing ethnic Croats, and the new management of the regional broadcaster agreed that the candidate nominated by the Croat community should be appointed editor of the Croatian language TV service, and that the broadcasting of radio programmes in Croatian should start soon.
