The government has decided that in accordance with parliamentary conclusions, the new constitution's preamble should be amended to state that "the province of Kosovo and Metohija is a constituent part of Serbia and has essential autonomy within the sovereign state of Serbia".
Under this definition of Kosovo's position, all state bodies have constitutional obligations to represent and protect Serbia's state interests in Kosovo and Metohija in all internal and foreign policy relations, the government said in a statement.
According to Belgrade's media, Kosovo officials said the draft constitution's proposal was legally unfounded and that it was irresponsible to discuss it as Kosovo's final status was being negotiated.
