Jovanovic told a news conference in Belgrade that the draft of the constitution's preamble, with provisions on attempts to preserve Kosovo within Serbia through that document, would further remove Serbia from the modern Europe and the European future.
"It is necessary to have a constitution for a modern and not a heavenly Serbia. To try to preserve Kosovo through the Constitution's Preamble is an expression of impotence, and the notion to defend the constitution at a referendum in 2007 is equal to (Slobodan) Milosevic's ideas from 1998," Jovanovic said.
Due to Milosevic's autocratic regime and persecution of Kosovo Albanians, in the spring of 1999 NATO carried out air strikes against Serbia so as to halt Serbian forces' attacks against Albanians in that province.
"Kosovo has been independent from Serbia for seven years and the world will conclude so this year," the leader of the opposition LDP told the conference.
In this context he criticised the latest statements which Serbia's President and Prime Minister, Boris Tadic and Vojislav Kostunica, made on this topic in the Serbian parliament a few days ago.
