Key party quits Serbian government over Ratko Mladic

BELGRADE, Oct 1 (Hina) - A key party in Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's minority coalition, the liberal G17 Plus party, have resigned its cabinet posts on Sunday and said its deputies would withdraw from parliament pending an early general election, party president and Serbia's Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic told a news conference on Sunday.
BELGRADE, Oct 1 (Hina) - A key party in Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's minority coalition, the liberal G17 Plus party, have resigned its cabinet posts on Sunday and said its deputies would withdraw from parliament pending an early general election, party president and Serbia's Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic told a news conference on Sunday.

The liberal G17 Plus party, which runs finance, health and agriculture and holds the post of deputy prime minister, had warned it would quit if war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic were not arrested by October 1 so the European Union could unfreeze talks with Serbia on its membership bid, suspended in May.

Dinkic said the ministers from the G17 Plus party would continue to perform their duties, in accordance with the law, until Serbia's parliament takes notice of their resignations. He said that political parties already started talks on calling parliamentary elections, adding that G 17 Plus party that the election be held by 17 December at the latest.

Apart from Dinkic, resignations have also been submitted by Deputy Prime Ivana Dulic Markovic, Health Minister Tomic Milosavljevic and Agriculture Minister Goran Zivkoc. The resignation also applies to Serbian Parliament President Predrag Markovic.
