ZAGREB, Sept 28 (Hina) - In continuation of its 22nd sitting, the Croatian parliament on Thursday discussed proposals to ratify a number of international agreements, including one with the EU on the exchange of confidential information.

The agreement regulates rules of procedure when handling confidential information, such as information regarding anti-terrorist activities and the fight against organised crime which Croatia will receive from the EU and vice versa.

A state secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Zeljko Kupresak, said that the agreement was expected to be ratified by next month, when Croatia starts bilateral screening for security policy.

The parliament supported the agreement, with Social Democrat Mato Arlovic suggesting that it be discussed under regular rather than urgent procedure. The suggestion was welcomed by the Party of Rights (HSP), which urged the government to send to parliament as soon as possible bills on information security and protection of confidentiality.

The MPs briefly discussed a Croatian-German agreement on the avoidance of double taxation.

They discussed a proposal to ratify the International Agreement on Civil Responsibility for the damages caused by oil contamination of sea waters, regardless of whether oil is used as the propellent or is being transported.

The parliament also discussed a bill on the ratification of a Croatian-Swedish agreement on cooperation in fighting crime.

It also supported an agreement amending the Framework Agreement on the Stimulation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Croatia, which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank are expected to finance with a 20 million euro loan.
