ZAGREB, Sept 20 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Wednesday received Israeli Ambassador Shmuel Meirom, who handed him an invitation from the Knesset President, Dalija Itzik, to officially visit Israel, parliament said in a press release.

This would be the first visit of a Croatian parliament speaker to Israel.

Seks and the Israeli ambassador talked about bilateral relations and the current state of affairs in Israel after a recent conflict with Hezbollah, the statement said.

Ambassador Meirom expressed indignation over an interview with Croatian MP Semso Tankovic, published on 18 August in a Croatian daily, under the headline "American Jews Are the Creators of the 9/11 Terrorist Attack". The Ambassador said Tankovic's statements were anti-Semitic and racist, the press release said.

Seks expressed deep regret about the personal opinion of MP Tankovic, distancing himself from such "unacceptable standpoints"
