ZAGREB, Sept 25 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on Monday that his visit to New York had been extremely successful and useful for Croatia, stressing that he held a number of bilateral meetings, spoke before the UN Security Council, and lobbied for Croatia's nonpermanent membership of the Security Council.

At a news conference held immediately upon his return from New York, the PM also spoke about a misunderstanding regarding his and Mesic's simultaneous visits to New York.

There were some misunderstandings, but they have been solved and they will be avoided in the future, Sanader said. We agreed that the President is the head of Croatia's state delegation, Sanader said.

Speaking about the role of Croatian Ambassador to the United States Neven Jurica in the misunderstanding and the fact that Mesic criticised the ambassador because of it, Sanader said that all misunderstandings had been resolved and that Jurica would remain ambassador.

Sanader stressed Mesic's role in and contribution to the promotion of Croatia at a recent summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Cuba in connection with economic growth and Croatia's nonpermanent membership of the UN Security Council.

The PM added that during his stay in the United States he also held talks with Croatian emigrants.

Commenting on today's ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the Croatian Army's 204th Vukovar Brigade, which participated in the defence of the eastern Croatian town from Serbian aggression, Sanader sent his congratulations to all members of the brigade, the status of which was legally regulated only last year.

Commenting on the Brodosplit shipyard money laundering affair and the possible responsibility of Economy Minister Branko Vukelic, the PM said there was no point in speculating about anyone's responsibility before the official investigation was over. Should the results point to irregularities, those responsible will have to answer, Sander said, adding that shipbuilding was very important to Croatia and that his government would do everything it can to preserve it.
