SISAK, Sept 18 (Hina) - In the next three years the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP), in cooperation with local and regional authorities
in Croatia, will invest four million euros in the economy, reconstruction of
the basic community infrastructure, improvement of the delivery of social
services and the work of NGOs providing social services in the areas of
Banovina and Kordun in Sisak-Moslavina and Karlovac counties, it was said at
the presentation of the project in Sisak on Monday. The UNDP deputy
permanent representative in Croatia, Alessandro Fracassetti, said the
development of Banovina and Kordun in the two neighbouring counties, which
suffered huge human and material losses in the war, was being supported within
the UNDP project for the socio-economic recovery of the areas of special state
concern Banovina and Kordun.
The project is being financed mostly by the local and regional
authorities, and the Norwegian and Dutch authorities.
Fracassetti said the project was part of the UNDP's overall development
strategy, which covers the areas of Vukovar, Ilok, Lika and the Dalmatian
hinterland. The purpose of the project is to support their development and the
development of other underdeveloped areas in Banovina and Kordun.
