The UNDP deputy permanent representative in Croatia, Alessandro Fracassetti, said the development of Banovina and Kordun in the two neighbouring counties, which suffered huge human and material losses in the war, was being supported within the UNDP project for the socio-economic recovery of the areas of special state concern Banovina and Kordun.

The project is being financed mostly by the local and regional authorities, and the Norwegian and Dutch authorities.

Fracassetti said the project was part of the UNDP's overall development strategy, which covers the areas of Vukovar, Ilok, Lika and the Dalmatian hinterland. The purpose of the project is to support their development and the development of other underdeveloped areas in Banovina and Kordun.
