ZAGREB, Sept 11 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on
Monday received the Chairman of the Swiss National Council, Claude Janiak,
thanking Switzerland for its support to Croatia's efforts to join the European
Union and NATO, and for the humanitarian aid it had provided during and in the
aftermath of the 1991-1995 war, the President's Office said in a press
release. Janiak agreed with Mesic that relations between the two
countries were very good and that efforts should be made to boost economic
ties. He cited packaging glass manufacturer Vetropack Straza as a good example
of Swiss investment in Croatia.
After Mesic presented his view of the situation in the region, Janiak
wanted to know how the countries in the region viewed their recent past. Mesic
pointed out the need to individualise the guilt for atrocities committed during
the 1990s wars in the former Yugoslavia, highlighting the role of the Hague
tribunal and domestic courts.
