Clearly, citizens want transparency in the political arena and we hope that a new law that will regulate this issue will be adopted by the next elections at the latest, the president of Transparency International Croatia, Zoran Antun Petrovic, said on Wednesday.
Petrovic said that almost all democratic countries had a law regulating the financing of political parties and campaign. The only exception in Europe is Sweden where an election candidate must present the list of names of all donors at the beginning of his campaign or face elimination from the political race, Petrovic said.
Transparency International Croatia therefore believes that the adoption and promotion of regulations for financing political parties and campaigns is a fundamental condition for preventing corruption and enabling further development of democracy in Croatia.
