The piece, offered by Premier auction house Sotheby's earlier this month, was presented to Croatian Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic. The government expressed satisfaction with the fact that the painting was finally in Croatia. The painting was presented to the public for the first time in the Croatian government building on Thursday.
Julije Klovic (1498-1578), known worldwide as Giulio Clovio, was a Croatian miniaturist painter. He excelled in historical pieces and portraits, painting as for microscopical examination, and yet contriving to handle his subjects with great force and precision.
Last year Croatia also purchased at an auction a relief by Ivan Dukanovic, a Renaissance sculptor from the southern Croatian costal town of Trogir.
