Tadic does not rule out possibility of independent Kosovo

BELGRADE, July 12 (Hina) - Serbian President Boris Tadic told Serbian Television on Tuesday evening that the entire Serbian state leadership insisted that Kosovo's independence was an unacceptable solution, adding however, that he cannot guarantee that such a solution was ruled out.

"It would be very dangerous if I, as Serbian president, said that the fact that we do not want to allow Kosovo's independence was sufficient for Kosovo to never gain independence. I have no right to deceive Serbian citizens," Tadic said.

"However, we must fight to the very last moment and use all legitimate means. allowed by the international policy today," he said.

Answering to a reporter's question, Tadic dismissed a possibility of a new war in case a decision of Kosovo's status would not be favourable for Serbia. "The greatest security risks for Serbia are in Kosovo and Methohija, but citizens do not need to fear that these risks would lead to a war," Tadic said, adding that Serbia had possibilities to lower the risks.

Tadic said Kosovo's independence would traumatise Serbian citizens, adding that this could jeopardise Euro-enthusiasm in the country and block the process of Serbia's association with the EU.
