The term of the present five-member Steering Council expired in early June. The government proposed to parliament to appoint four new members from the ranks of the media, legal, financial-economic and computer science sectors, while the fifth member, a Hina employee, would be appointed subsequently.
SDP member Zeljka Antunovic and Antun Vujic, as well as external members Dragutin Lucic, Zdenko Duka and Zrinka Perusko asked the government to withdraw itts proposal and suggested for the old Steering Council to continue to work until this autumn when the government is expected to propose new candidates.
Board president Antunovic accused the government of wanting to impose a political surveillance in Hina, and manipulate with the procedure and laws, saying that three of the four candidates were neither economic-financial, nor legal, nor computer experts, as as required by the Hina Act.
A vice president of the Croatian Journalists' Association (HND), Duka, agreed.
HND president Lucic said that Bozo Skoko was a media expert adding however, that he was a co-owner of a marketing agency and thus in conflict of interests.
