Mesic and Nazarbayev underlined the need for advancing the two countries economic cooperation.
Addressing the press, Mesic said Kazakhstan was a country of a strong economic growth with ongoing infrastructure projects and fast reforms. He added Kazakhstan had very good cooperation with countries in the region and international institutions.
Croatia and Kazakhstan have good relations, Mesic said adding that there was room or improvement.
The Kazakh head of state said his visit to Croatia was his first trip to Europe after the last inauguration, adding that his country highly appreciated dynamic relations with Croatia and Croatia's support to Kazakhstan's joining WTO.
Both of our countries have a unique position in their regions and set a good example of how to connect Asia and Europe, Nazarbayev said.
The Kazakh president, who is visiting Croatia at Mesic's invitation, is also scheduled to hold talks with Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. On Monday he attender Croatia Summit 2006 in the southern Adriatic town of Dubrovnik. This is Nazarbayev's second visit to Croatia. His first visit to Zagreb took place five years ago, while Mesic visited Kazakhstan in April 2002.
Mesic said the two countries needed to improve bilateral cooperation in international institutions and developed stronger consular and diplomatic ties as well as turn joint initiatives into concrete projects
Regardless of the distance between the two countries, Mesic expressed hope Croatian counties and Kazakh regions would develop stronger ties.
President Nazarbayev said Kazakh companies were interested in entering the Croatian market and expressed hope that Croatian companies would be interested i doing business in Kazakhstan.
Asked if the talks focused on the Druzba Adria project, the two presidents answered in the positive. Nazarbayev said that an increased oil production was leading to jams at existing transport terminals and expressed his country's interest in oil delivery in Constanc and Omisalj.
Mesic said that the transport of oil to the west was a matter of agreement with other parties, notably Slovenia, and oil suppliers. Asked it this meant that Croatia was interested in the renewal of the Druzba Adria project, Mesic gave an indirect answer.
" Kazakhstan is interested in transporting its oil and gas to the were and Croatia wants to secure oil and gas supply for itself. If we can benefit from the transport through Croatia, we will look into the proposal. This matter is to be discussed by experts and politicians," Mesic said.
