TIVAT, June 24 (Hina) - The Croat Civic Society (HGD) in
Montenegro held its fifth annual assembly in Tivat on Friday and concluded that
this nongovernmental organisation had met its founders' expectations by
contributing to the raising of the national awareness of Montenegro's Croat
minority. HGD president Ivan Ilic said the recent adoption of a law
on the protection of rights of national minorities and ethnic groups was of
outstanding importance for Croats in Montenegro as it provided them with their
parliamentary representative.
"Montenegro has become an independent state, which was the majority
wish of local Croats," Ilic said, adding that the HGD had been part of the
Movement for Independent Montenegro.
He voiced hoped that Montenegro's independence would advance the
increasingly good Montenegrin-Croatian relations.
