Bulatovic is an honest man and knows that I have never exerted any pressure not to recognise the results, Miroslav Lajcak said on Television Montenegro on Wednesday evening. He added that he could not comment if someone felt he was exerting pressure because was asking that laws be respected.
Speaking yesterday on behalf of the bloc supporting the Serbia and Montenegro state union, the so-called unionists, Bulatovic asked for the annulment of votes from several dozen polling stations and called on Lajcak not to pressure them to give up on what they were legally entitled to do.
Lajcak said he had told Bulatovic several times, as well as said so publicly, that both those for independence and those against it were legally entitled to submit complaints and should exercise this right, and that it was up to the Referendum Commission, or possibly the Montenegrin Constitutional Court, to respond to them.
Lajcak said he had appealed to leaders of the pro-union camp not to pass judgment on the referendum process before submitting complaints because it resembled politicking, as did stories about a mafia state and a stolen referendum.
This way, these people are challenging the European Union to a conflict, because they invited it to be part of this process. I don't understand what is going on in Montenegro, Lajcak said, adding that he was very disappointed.
He also said he would not like Montenegro to go back to the situation prior to the referendum, and that he believed the political leaders would maintain until the end of the process the civilised European behaviour they had demonstrated throughout.
