Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said at the opening ceremony that it was no coincidence that Slovenia was the first country to open a diplomatic mission in Podgorica because it had supported Montenegro's desire for independence for years.
Montenegro will continue to have a good friend and reliable partner in Slovenia, which wants to have in its neighbourhood successful countries that are founded in line with European values, Rupel said.
Montenegrin Foreign Minister Miodrag Vlahovic said after meeting Rupel that Slovenia's decision to open its embassy in independent Montenegro did the country credit.
Rupel was also due to meet other senior Montenegrin officials today.
The Slovene Embassy is located in the building which once housed the country's general consulate.
