HSP accuses government of incompetence in case of economic zone in Adriatic Sea

ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The parliamentary club of deputies of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) said on Friday that the government was incompetent with regard to activating the economic zone in the Adriatic Sea.
ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The parliamentary club of deputies of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) said on Friday that the government was incompetent with regard to activating the economic zone in the Adriatic Sea.

HSP deputy Tonci Tadic told reporters in parliament that he did not expect the government to voice its position on the HSP's proposal to activate the zone before the summer recess.

The only response was the one by Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic that the going into force of the ecological-fishing zone had been postponed until the completion of talks with the EU on fisheries, Tadic said.

Tadic believes that Croatia should launch talks on the matter rather than "wait for the talks to be initiated by the EU, which will not do it, because Italy is interested in maintaining a chaotic situation in the Adriatic".

The HSP will use all means in and outside the parliament to have the zone fully activated, so that Croatia's position in that regard is clearer, Tadic said.

Speaking about Croatia's agreement with the United States enabling the US authorities to search commercial ships sailing under the Croatian flag in case they are suspected of transporting weapons of mass destruction, Tadic said the signing of the agreement was a serious failure.

"It is unclear what Croatia gets by allowing its sailors to be placed under suspicion," he said, warning that the USA did not pledge to compensate ships for delays or damage to their reputation.

The HSP deputy advised Croatian sailors to leave the Croatian fleet and sail under the flag of a NATO country if they encountered such problems.
