Ceric told a TV station in the southern city of Mostar on Tuesday evening that Bosnia had reason to apply for OIC membership given that "more than a half of the (Bosnian) population are Muslims".
The dignitary did not explain where he obtained information that more than a half of citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina are Muslims.
"If Bosnia-Herzegovina is planning to become a European Union member-state, why should not we be a full member of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference ? This would make it possible for Bosnia to have access to the funds of the Islamic Development Bank," Ceric said in the interview.
The OIC is an inter-governmental organisation with a permanent delegation to the United Nations. It consists of 57 mostly Islamic nations in the Middle East, North and West Africa, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. The OIC is dedicated to serving the interests of the world's estimated 1.4 billion Muslims.
