A press release was issued on Wednesday also by Branimir Glavas, the head of a civil association with the same name, saying that he would continue to be the chairman of the Croatian Democratic Assembly of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) civil association which "will provide logistics for the newly-established party led by Kresimir Bubalo".
The decision on the establishment of the party was made by the steering committee in response to the latest developments surrounding the case of Branimir Glavas.
The committee explained its move as a response to "the latest political blow by the current government to Glavas, the chairman of the HDSSB civil association, and (the government's) attempt to impede the implementation of the platform for the progress of Slavonia and Baranja".
Glavas again came into the limelight after the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor asked the parliament to strip him of immunity as a member of the Sabor, so that criminal proceedings can be launched against him on suspicion that he committed war crimes against civilians in Osijek in 1991.
