Bosniaks in Serb entity parliament's upper house challenge appointment of new gov't

SARAJEVO, Jan 4 (Hina) - The club of Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) in the Serb entity parliament's upper house, the House of Peoples, on Tuesday challenged the legitimacy of the new entity government, claiming that there was no credible representative of the Bosniak people in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Aleksandar Dzombic, a high official of Milorad Dodik's Party of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD).

The Bosnian club today vetoed the appointment of the new government which was appointed by the entity parliament's lower house on 29 December.

According to the entity's constitution, the Bosnian Serb government must include, apart from Serbs, five ministers of Bosnian Muslim (Bosniak) descent, and three Croats.

As for the Croat officials, only Davor Cordas, who will serve as minister for refugees, comes from a Croat party - the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH), while the other two ministerial posts intended for Croats, as well as ministerial posts intended for Bosniaks, were taken by candidates from the ruling Serb parties.

"It is disputable how much those five Bosniaks (in the government) really represent Bosniak interests," the club's chairman Mujo Hadziomerovic said, adding that the club would appeal to the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska (RS), as well as to the state bodies, if necessary.

The Bosniak veto prevents Dzombic and his cabinet from stepping into office.

The new entity premier said today that he would adhere to the procedure. "Of course, we will wait for a ruling of the RS Constitutional Court, and the previous government will work as an interim government until the court decision," he said in Banja Luka.
