SARAJEVO, April 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic who arrived in Sarajevo to attend a session of the Inter-State Council for Cooperation between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Wednesday evening held a private meeting with leaders of local political parties that oppose the draft constitutional amendments, the media in Sarajevo reported on Thursday morning.

The Office of the Croatian President had not announced that Mesic would hold any meetings on Wednesday evening upon his arrival in the Bosnian capital. The Sarajevo-based Dnevni Avaz daily, however, reported that last night Mesic attended a private dinner, organised by the leadership of the Party for Bosnia-Herzegovina (SBIH) and nonparliamentary Social Democratic Union (SDU).

Quoting unnamed sources, the daily said that "in a cordial and friendly atmosphere" Mesic and politicians Haris Silajdzic, Sejfudin Tokic, Ivo Komsic, Miro Lazovic, Nijaz Durakovic and Muhamed Filipovic had discussed the draft amendments.

They explained to the Croatian president why they were against the planned amendments to the constitution which seven major parties had agreed on.

On Thursday, Mesic is to attend the 10th session of the above mentioned interstate council.
