VUKOVAR, April 12 (Hina) - The Vukovar Town Council on Wednesday
launched an initiative to amend the Permanent and Temporary Residence Act and
the Voter Registration Act so that local voter records could be updated before
the next election because they do not match data on the number of the town's
inhabitants. The initiative was launched by independent councillor
Pilip Karaula, who said that according to the 2001 population census Vukovar
had over 31,500 inhabitants and that more than 33.300 people were eligible to
vote in the last local election in 2005.
The initiative was supported by all councillors except two members of
the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) who abstained.
