ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - Foreign investments in Croatia in the past 12 years amounted to 11 billion euros, which is satisfactory, but the investment structure reveals that Croatia lacks foreign direct investments in production (greenfield investments) with new technologies, particularly export products.

This was stated by Croatian Economy Minister Branko Vukelic, who spoke at a conference on the current economic and political situation in Croatia organised for members of the French business confederation MEDEF International.

Speaking about Croatia as a potential partner to French business people, Vukelic said he regretted that France was not among top ten investors in Croatia and presented advantages for investors.

Those are Croatia's geographic position, which ensures access by land and sea to EU countries as well as to Central and East European countries, institutional and legislative stability, macroeconomic stability, a clear orientation towards European integration, a developed road and railway infrastructure, and a highly qualified labour force which "isn't cheap, but Croatia does not want to produce cheap products anyway", Vukelic said.

Vukelic presented incentives for investors based on the Investment Promotion Act and on investments in 15 free and around 250 entrepreneurial zones that are being established throughout Croatia.

The measures have produced results, which is evidenced by the fact that two years ago the share of greenfield investments in overall foreign direct investments was 55 percent, Vukelic said.

The Zagreb conference was organised by the Croatian Chamber of the Economy.
