Presenting the event's programme in Croatian, Ambassador Yoshio Tamura expressed hope that its diversity would contribute to the better understanding of Japanese culture and tradition in Croatia.
The diplomat spoke about the Japanese taiko drums. The Kiyo-Kito group, which arrived from Budapest for the occasion, gave a concert playing these drums.
Ambassador Tamura said that a master in igo, an ancient board game for two players, arrived in Zagreb to promote this popular pastime in Japan.
Visitors at the Japanese Culture Week will also have the opportunity to become acquainted with the Japanese shodo calligraphy.
The ambassador also spoke about the tradition of tea drinking in his country.
The Japanese Culture Week, which ends on 30 October, will also include workshops on origami and haiku poetry.
