Two-day conference on TACSO project starts in Zagreb

ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - A two-day conference on the Technical Assistance for Civil Society Organisations (TACSO) project, aimed at strengthening nongovernmental organisations in southeastern Europe, began in Zagreb on Thursday.

The conference brought together representatives of the civil sector and government institutions in the region and officials of the European Union, which finances the project.

The project is being conducted by the Swedish SIPU agency in cooperation with nongovernmental organisations from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Turkey, Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.

SIPU director Karin Schulz said that the project was designed to enhance the capacity of civil society organisations and strengthen their role in democratic processes in their countries.

The TACSO consultant for Croatia, Aida Bagic, said Croatia was chosen as the venue of this event thanks to the overall development of its civil sector and the fact that it could serve as an example of good practice.
