MOSTAR, Feb 12 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Saturday evening held a meeting with leaders of Bosnian Croat political parties on constitutional changes in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Croat parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina should reach agreement on a joint platform in future negotiations on the constitutional changes, Sanader said after the talks in the southern city of Mostar.

"We suggested to Bosnian Croat parties at the meeting that they should reach agreement on the joint platform in the future negotiations on the constitutional changes," said Sanader who is also the chief of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the ruling party in his country.

Lately some media in Bosnia and Croatia have speculated that during his visit to Mostar Sanader would propose the uniting of Croat parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Sanader, however, dismissed it explaining that the merger of the political parties would be pointless.

There was no mention of establishing three entities (in Bosnia) at the talks on the Croat parties' joint position, Sanader said answering a reporter's question.

Commenting on the situation in the HDZ BiH marked by the conflict between the party chief Dragan Covic and Covic's counter-candidate at the last election convention, Bozo Ljubic who was recently evicted from the party, Sanader said that "what is happening is not good".

The arguments have caused negative reverberations both among the supporters of the party and in the European People's Party (EPP) which suspended the observer status of the HDZ BiH in this group in the European Parliament.

Asked whether he still believed that Covic was not the best solution for the leader of the HDZ BiH, which he had stated once in the past, Sanader said that he had never said that Croatia should decide on the HDZ BiH President.

Dragan Covic was not at the Mostar meeting with Sanader, Other senior officials from his party said that Covic had not been able to arrive as he sustained an injury while playing soccer in his free time.

The Croatian premier said he had heard that Covic was ill.
