ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Monday received the primate of the Catholic Church in Bosnia, Sarajevo Archbishop Vinko Puljic.

The meeting was held behind closed doors. After the talks, Cardinal Puljic told reporters he offered his congratulations to Sanader on the 14th anniversary of Croatia's international recognition (15 January) and expressed gratitude for Croatia's financial and political support to Bosnian Croats.

The talks focused on efforts that could contribute to the establishment of equality of three peoples in Bosnia, Puljic said.

"We, Croats in Bosnia, do not ask to be given any privileges, we ask that all three peoples become equal and express concern that the new approach to the Constitution of Bosnia-Herzegovina would put Croats in a position of secondary importance. This is why we ask that Croatia should exercise its constitutional right as a cosignatory to the Dayton Accord and help Croats in Bosnia," Cardinal Puljic said.

Commenting on a reporter's question about reasons for his failure to attend the ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Dayton Accord, the cardinal said the Dayton Agreement had not done anything for the Catholics in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

According to a press release issued after the talks by the Croatian government's public relations office, the Croatian premier announced his official visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina in the near future, when he would also visit the seat of the Sarajevo Archdiocese.

Sanader said that Croatia regarded Bosnia as a friendly country and gave it full support during the process of consolidation and efforts to join European integration processes.

He said that his cabinet would soon appoint a special representative to take part in discussions on the upgrading of the Dayton peace accords.
