SARAJEVO, Jan 25 (Hina) - Talks between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the European Union on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) started officially in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

The head of the EU's six-member negotiating team, Reinhard Priebe, said after the closed-door talks with the Bosnian negotiating team that they discussed a draft SAA that was similar to the agreements negotiated by Croatia and Macedonia, as well as some unique features of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The talks also covered financial cooperation between the EU and Bosnia. As the biggest donor in the Balkans, the EU has a plan of financial assistance for Bosnia-Herzegovina in the process of its integration with the EU, Priebe said.

The talks on the SAA will last one year and the next round of negotiations is scheduled to start on March 17 in Sarajevo.

Bosnia's chief negotiator Igor Davidovic said that the process of integration with the EU was not expected to last more than ten years, meaning that the country could become a full EU member by 2016 at the latest.
