MOSTAR, Jan 20 (Hina) - Slobodan Milosevic is a die-hard communist
and atheist who still labours under the illusion that he is president, which
is his personal tragedy, Serb Orthodox Bishop Grigorije said in an interview
with the Bosnian edition of the Zagreb-based Vecernji List newspaper published
on Friday. Bishop Grigorije said that he had held two services in
The Hague, but that Milosevic refused to attend. "Never in his life has he
attended any service," he said.
The bishop said that the time during which Milosevic was in power was a
tragedy for the Serb people and that the tragedy continued today.
Serb Orthodox Church leaders in Bosnia-Herzegovina have been reluctant
to criticise Milosevic, who is on trial before the UN war crimes tribunal in
The Hague. Grigorije is the first Serb Orthodox dignitary to have publicly
opposed Milosevic's policies.
