The head of the Croatian negotiating team responsible for the chapter on free movement of goods has announced a possibility that the European Commission might ask Croatia to discontinue the campaign, which may be regarded as an obstacle for the equal access of all products to the Croatian market.
In that context EC officials have mentioned the example of Ireland, which was sued before the European Court of Justice 20 years ago over a similar campaign and lost the case.
The HGK representatives said on Tuesday that "Let's Buy Croatian" was one of many activities which the chamber had undertaken to promote the interests of the Croatian economy. The campaign was recently continued under the slogan "Let's Produce and Buy High Quality!", and the chamber's officials believe that the EU will find nothing controversial about this campaign.
The chamber will continue with the certification of high-quality Croatian products labelling them with brands "Original Croatian" and "Croatian Quality" as those brands facilitate the appearance of Croatian products on the global market.
In addition, Croatia's negotiators will thoroughly study the case of Ireland to establish whether it had any similarities with the Croatian campaign.
