MALINSKA, Jan 8 (Hina) - "Plavi forum", a Croatian network of
environmental organisations, and representatives of some 30 coastal local
government units concluded at a meeting in Malinska on the northern Adriatic
island of Krk this weekend that at the moment the Croatian coast was mostly
threatened by poor regional planning. Participants in the meeting
set up a club of local councillors to promote the sustainable development of
the Adriatic Sea. The club will try to ensure that plans found by the
environmental network to be posing a threat to the coast are not approved. In
case relevant state authorities do not show understanding for arguments
presented by the network, the councillors said they were ready to seek legal
recourse at the Constitutional Court.
The network was established in December 2004 to coordinate the
activities of environmental organisations in protecting the Adriatic.
