SARAJEVO, July 10 (Hina) - The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Carla Del Ponte, reiterated on Tuesday that the assessment of full cooperation of countries of the region with the Hague tribunal could be given only after the remaining four war crimes fugitive were arrested extradited to the ICTY.

Del Ponte said this to reporters in Sarajevo where she met the new High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajcak, and members of the Bosnian collective presidency Zeljko Komsic and Haris Silajdzic.

Del Ponte underlined that her last report to the UN Security Council and the Council of Europe on progress Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia made in cooperation with the ICTY was based on positive steps such as the arrest of general Zdravko Tolimir.

She said, however, this was not sufficient for an assessment of full cooperation which Croatia deserved prior to the arrest of general Ante Gotovina.

The situation with Serbia today is not the same as was Croatia's situation then, Del Ponte said. Full cooperation requires locating all four fugitives, including Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, the ICTY chief prosecutor said.

Del Ponte did not speak about the whereabouts of ICTY fugitives.

Answering to reporters' questions, Del Ponte said she did not know that an association of mothers of the Srebrenica victims was against her arrival in Srebrenica.

Commenting on claims that part of her current staff was opposing the appointment of Belgian Serge Bremmetz as new chief prosecutor, Del Ponte said she hoped her associates wold continue to do their job after December when she is scheduled to leave the post.

A total od 18 of Del Ponte's associates have allegedly sent a letter to the UN Secretary general requesting that Del Ponte's deputy, American David Tolbert, be appointed new chief prosecutor and not Serge Bremmetz
