BRUSSELS, June 29 (Hina) - Ministers in charge of energy from
countries signatories to the Treaty establishing the Southeast Europe Energy
Community concluded in Becici, Montenegro, on Friday that headway had been made
in the implementation of the Treaty over the past year, the European
Commission said in a statement. The Treaty, which went into force on
1 July 2006, was signed in 2005 by European Union countries and Croatia,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo.
Moldova, Norway, Ukraine and Turkey have expressed interest in joining
the Energy Community.
The Energy Community has proved to be a fruitful platform for
investment promotion and strengthening of national markets, the EC said.
On July 1, Serbia will take over the chairmanship of the Energy
Community from Montenegro. The next ministerial meeting will take place in
Belgrade in November.
