BRUSSELS, June 19 (Hina) - The Council of the European Union has lifted an EU entry ban for persons who had helped Croatian Army general Ante Gotovina while he was on the run from the Hague war crimes tribunal.

The Council said in conclusions issued on Tuesday that after Gotovina's extradition to the UN court, certain persons connected to him had been taken off the ban list.

The list of persons banned from entering the EU since 29 June 2004 for obstructing the work of the Hague tribunal in any way included Croatian citizens Zeljko Bagic, Zeljko Dilber, Ante Zoni Maksan, Hrvoje Petrac, and Ljubo Cesic Rojs. They were thought to be helping Gotovina hide.

The entry ban list now includes 44 persons but none of them are Croatian citizens.
