Eko Kvarner satisfied with Southeast Europe energy summit

RIJEKA, June 25 (Hina) - The Eko Kvarner ecological association said in a statement on Monday it was "moderately satisfied" with the results of a Southeast Europe energy summit held in Zagreb yesterday.

The association said it was important that the Druzba Adria oil pipeline project was not reactivated and was satisfied that Croatian President Stjepan Mesic highlighted the importance of environmental protection and respect of the highest ecological standards in future energy projects.

Eko Kvarner said it was surprised by Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement that Russian companies would respect the highest ecological standards, assessing that such a position was a significant evolution from previous ones which focused on the "race for profit".

The association also commended new energy projects, such as the transport of Caspian and Russian oil by joining the JANAF and TAL pipelines, saying this would reduce the transport of oil via the Adriatic.
