Zagreb conference on trafficking in humans ends

ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) from Vienna will set up a data base by the year's end for victims of trafficking in people and forced labour in Southeast Europe.
ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) from Vienna will set up a data base by the year's end for victims of trafficking in people and forced labour in Southeast Europe.

It will be based on regional criteria so that Southeast European countries can compare data as well as on the specific requests of each country, it was said on Wednesday, at the end of an international conference on data management held in Zagreb as part of a project on fighting people smuggling in Southeast Europe.

Presenting conclusions and concrete guidelines for the future, ICMPD official Enrico Ragaglia said at the end of the two-day event the database for Southeast Europe would be set up by the end of this year.

He added that the ICMPD would also develop software and translate the database into the languages of the countries participating in the project - Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania and Serbia.

Representatives of another two organisations that have already developed people trafficking databases - the International Labour Organisation and the International Organisation for Migration - also addressed the conference and shared their experiences.
