ZAGREB, June 17 (Hina) - Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Minister Petar Cobankovic and Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP) president Grga Ivezic said on Sunday they supported the Maestro operation, in which six HFP officials were arrested yesterday, saying it was a big success in the fight against corruption.

Three vice presidents were among the six HFP officials arrested for financial wrongdoing in the joint operation of the Interior Ministry, the Office for the Suppression and Prevention of Corruption, the State Prosecutor's Office and intelligence agents.

Speaking to the press before a session of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union's Main Committee, Ivezic said he was surprised by what the arrested had been doing and that he and the government knew nothing about it.

He said everything had to be investigated thoroughly and that those established to have broken the law should be severely punished.

Cobankovic, a member of the HFP management board, said he supported the investigation of the case and that the fight against corruption, bribery and organised crime must continue.

Asked by the press what yesterday's arrest said about the HFP's work, Cobankovic reiterated that Maestro was a big success in the fight against corruption and that such operations must continue.
