ZAGREB, June 17 (Hina) - The Democratic Centre (DC) has has asked
the government to establish political responsibility of ministers sitting in
the Steering Committee of the Croatian Privatisation Funds and congratulated
the State prosecutor's Office, the Office for the Suppression of Organised
Crime and Corruption (IUSKOK) and police on the successful completion of an
Operation that ended yesterday with the arrests of six Croatian Privatisation
Fund senior officials suspected of embezzlement and corruption.
However, those who gave orders for criminal activities in the Privatisation
Fund must also be discovered, DC President Vesna Skare Ozbolt told a news
conference on Sunday.
We were unpleasantly surprised with the reaction of Prime Minister Ivo
Sanader who rushed to take any responsibility, both criminal and political, of
his ministers sitting in the Fund's Steering Committee and directly monitoring
the work of this institution, Skare Ozbolt said.
Even if they are not criminally responsible, they are politically
responsible because the ministers had not been doing their jobs, namely they
did not control the work of the Fund, the DC president said.
