ZAGREB, June 16 (Hina) - Asked to comment on the latest conflict
between the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) about the costs of constructing the Zagreb-Rijeka highway, Croatian
President Stjepan Mesic told reporters on Saturday that "everything that has
not yet been explained must be explained", adding that "there are institutions
which must implement rigorous measures to establish the facts". The
Croatian president said this on the margins of a regional conference of the
Igman Initiative, being held in Zagreb on Saturday.
Deputy Ivica Pancic of the SDP told a news conference on Friday that
nobody from the government had dismissed information that the cost of the
construction of a dual carriageway between Zagreb and Rijeka had rose by over
40 million euros.
