Presenting the report, Environmental Protection Ministry State Secretary Nikola Ruzinski said that significant headway was made in the development of the environmental protection system in the said period.
In addition, the public awareness of this matter was raised and the number of institutions tackling the issue and relevant regulations were increased.
According to Ruzinski, the biggest problems were a lack of transparency in carrying out commitments in this sector as well as a lack of funds.
Ruzinski highlighted the improved quality of air and better waste management as some of key achievements.
Presenting the draft act, he said that the new law would be adjusted to European Union standards in this sector.
