ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - Members of an association of war veterans
from Zagreb who had defended the eastern town of Vukovar in the early 1990s on
Tuesday distanced themselves from a recent media statement made by the
association's head, Damir Jasarevic, who had said that two retired Croatian
Army generals Vladimir Zagorec and Branimir Glavas should be stripped of
decorations over the "contempt shown towards the Croatian legal system". On Tuesday, the association's members said that it was unacceptable to put
General Glavas on the same footing with Zagorec in this context.
Those members who held today's news conference in Zagreb said that as
far as they were concerned, Zagorec could b stripped of all decorations and
ranks. However, Glavas defended Osijek and Slavonia in a heroic manner, they
said.
