Zvonimir Sabati of the HSS and Dragutin Lesar of the HNS told a news conference that their parties had formulated draft conclusions urging the government to submit a report on its activities in the process of dividing the country into statistical regions.
The two parliamentarians recalled that in June 2003, the parliament had decided to accept the division of Croatia into five statistical regions. This decision has not been changed to date, and it is for them inadmissible that the State Bureau of Statistics can impose a decision on three statistical regions.
Lesar expressed his opinion the model with the three regions has been tailored to the needs of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
The issue of the statistical regional division has recently been raised over best models for Croatia and possibilities for drawing European Union funds for regional development.
