Household loans exceed HRK 100 bln

ZAGREB, May 12 (Hina) - Household loans in Croatia have exceeded HRK 100 billion. In the first quarter of 2007 Croatian citizens borrowed nearly HRK 5 billion in fresh credit from banks, with housing loans accounting for a half of the borrowing, according to the latest figures from the Croatian National Bank.
ZAGREB, May 12 (Hina) - Household loans in Croatia have exceeded HRK 100 billion. In the first quarter of 2007 Croatian citizens borrowed nearly HRK 5 billion in fresh credit from banks, with housing loans accounting for a half of the borrowing, according to the latest figures from the Croatian National Bank.

At the end of March bank loans totalled HRK 197.7 billion, an increase of 5.5 billion over the previous month. Corporate loans rose by HRK 2.56 billion and household loans by HRK 2.43 billion compared to February.

Household loans accounted for 50.8 per cent of the bank loans. Household loans totalled HRK 100.6 billion at the end of March, increasing by HRK 4.9 billion since the end of 2006. Compared to March 2006, household loans went up by HRK 19.2 billion, the annual growth rate being 23.6 per cent.

Looking at the household credit structure, housing loans continued to grow, increasing from 36.2 per cent in March 2006 to 39 per cent. In March 2007 housing loans amounted to HRK 39.2 billion, which was 9.7 billion more than in the same month last year. The annual growth rate was 33.1 per cent.

In the first three months of 2007 corporate loans rose by HRK 3.8 billion to exceed HRK 82 billion at the end of March. Corporate loans accounted for 41.5 per cent of all the loans.
