According to media reports from earlier in the day, President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica reached an agreement to form a new government, under which Kostunica would be the prime minister and Tadic the president of the National Security Council that coordinates all the security services.
The present Minister of the Interior, Dragan Jocic, would remain in that post, the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) would be shared by DS and DSS, while DS would be responsible for the Ministry of Defence and the Military Security Agency.
The agreement was conditional, as insisted by Tadic and Dinkic, on the replacement or resignation of Radical Tomislav Nikolic as Parliament Speaker.
Nikolic told the media today he was not ready to resign but would do so if that was demanded by 126 out of the 250 members of Parliament.
He also said that he would call a session of the parliament after Tadic and Kostunica informed him that they have a parliamentary majority to nominate their prime minister designate.
After Tadic, Kostunica and Dinkic submit to the parliament their proposal for the formation of a new government, 24 hours must pass for possible amendments to the proposal, after which the parliament can hold a session to elect a new government.
Under the Serbian constitution, a new government must be formed by Monday, May 14. If not, the Serbian president will have to dissolve the parliament and call a new election.
