Montenegro US sign agreement on non-extradition of US citizens to ICJ

PODGORICA, May 3 (Hina) - The Montenegrin Government said on its web site on Thursday that the country had recently signed an agreement with the United States, binding Montenegro not to extradite US citizens, charged with genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, to the International Court of Justice.

Leaders of the Montenegrin parliamentary parties criticised the way the agreement was signed, stressing that parliament should have approved the signing such a document. The deputies also highlighted that the agreement was signed in secrecy without the knowledge of the public.

The political director of the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Radulovic, sad the agreement between the Montenegrin government and the United States was no secret and that it was signed on 19 April.

"If anyone wanted to make the agreement secret it would be possible because some countries that signed such an agreement with the US had insisted on secrecy," he said.
