Gov't formulates bills on tourist trade, arms

ZAPRESIC, May 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Government on Friday sent to parliament a final bill regulating tourist trade.

The bill envisages the full liberalisation of services in tourism with Croatia's entry into the European Union, if this field is not regulated by international agreements in the meantime.

"Upon Croatia's admission to the EU, foreigners will be allowed to offer tourist services in Croatia under the same conditions as Croatian nationals," the Tourism Minister, Bozidar Kalmeta, said at a government session in the town of Zapresic on Friday.

The law is to go into force at the start of November this year.

The Ivo Sanader cabinet also sent to parliament the new arms bill.

The bill, adjusted to the EU acquis communautaire, will require from persons who have firearms in their possession to undergo medical exams every five years in order to be allowed to extend their arms licences. So far, they had been required to undergo those checks every ten years.

The government endorsed a report on negotiations with the World Bank on EUR 100-million loan for an inland water project.

Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic urged the parliament to ratify the agreement on the matter until its summer recess so that the implementation of the project could start soon.
