ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - The trade union of workers in the Croatian telecommunications sector (HST) on Thursday held a 20-minute solidarity strike to support an action by the UNI Telecom Global Union Deutsche Telekom Alliance in 13 countries.

The strike, which was organised during a lunch break at noon, pooled only few workers in the T-HT Group's main office in Zagreb.

During the protest, which was attended by five workers, the HST chairman, Josip Pupic read out a manifest, saying that the DT Group management had announced the lay-off of 32,000 workers and the transfer of an additional 50,000 through the process of outsourcing. This also concerns T-HT, Pupic said.

For the time being we have no exact figures as to how many of our workers may be covered by these plans, but we expect that it will reciprocally affect the employees in Croatia, Pupic said.

T-HT spokeswoman Alemka Lisinski said that lay-offs and outsourcing in DT would have no impact on the situation in the Croatian company.

"There is no mechanical copying of business moves from DT to T-HT as they are different markets. We shall continue with restructuring in accordance with the needs of the Croatian market and -HT, showing social sensitivity towards our workers," Lisinksi said.

T-HT must continue with its restructuring so as to reach the international standard of 500 lines per employee while the company currently has 270 lines per employee, she said adding that all this would be done through dialogue with trade unions.

She recalled that severance pay in the T-HT group is 340,000 kuna (approx. 46,200 euros)

(1EUR = 7.36 kuna)
