The discussion, which gathered representatives of the Environmental Protection Ministry, the Environmental Protection Fund, the Croatian Power Industry (HEP), university professors and environmentalists, focused on the situation in the energy sector in Croatia.
Environmental Protection Ministry State Secretary Nikola Ruzinski said Croatia could not solve its energy problems relying only on renewables. However, Croatia has to work on decreasing all adverse effects on the global climate, he said.
Ruzinski recalled that Croatia had undertook to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol which the national parliament should ratify next week.
A manager from the HEP company said Croatia imported 55 percent of energy products which meant that the country was dependant on imports and that it must work on a variety of energy supply.
