SARAJEVO, April 19 (Hina) - The Bosnian government considers
acceptable the proposed project for the construction of a bridge between the
Croatian mainland and the Peljesac peninsula as agreed by teams of experts from
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, and voting on the project is expected next
week, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia-Herzegovina and
Finance Minister, Dragan Vrankic, told reporters in Sarajevo on Thursday. Vrankic said that the Council of Ministers had discussed the project at
a session on Thursday, concluding that the proposed height of the bridge of 55
metres and the span of 200 metres fully met Bosnia-Herzegovina's demands for
unobstructed access to high seas.
Vrankic explicitly said that this assessment was shared by all members
of the Bosnian government.
A protocol approving the project was not immediately put to the vote
because some ministers believe that it should be tied to the fulfilment of
"certain political conditions," the deputy prime minister said.
"The question was whether the construction of the bridge should be tied
to other outstanding issues with Croatia," Vrankic said, citing the problem of
border demarcation. "I believe we will harmonise our views before the session
scheduled for next week," he said.
